Applicants to the prestigious 28-year-old ranking have to sweat through a 658-question application, offer paid maternity leave, and have at least 500 workers to qualify for the list, which looks at child care, leave policies, flex time, policies that support women’s advancement, managerial training, and other factors.
Eighty three percent of this year’s Working Mother 100 offer backup childcare, in case a primary source of child care falls out, said Jennifer Owens, editorial director for the magazine in New York.
The mag touted Dell for providing access to 1,100 “near-site” child care centers daily, onsite fitness centers, local gymn discounts, and adoption aid. Eighty seven percent of employees in the Dell executive mentoring program are women, Owens said.
At TI, Working Mother touted employee picnics, events such as Take Your Daughters and Sons to Work Day, company fitness centers, and summer and winter camps for workers’ children. Seventy percent of employees were working under flex time last year, Working Mother said.
