Board president Jim Ash made a special effort to thank school attorneys for their work during tonight's meeting. In particular, he gave praise to Heather Castillo.
During superintendent Hector Montenegro's short tenure in Arlington, her office was moved from being adjacent to the superintendent's to a location further from his office. After he was placed on administrative leave Thursday, her office was moved back. She had advised Montenegro several times in recent months that he could not accept honorariums from outside sources that did business with the district.
Ash said Castillo has "given extraordinary amounts of time, energy and devotion to this district during the past six months. Her personal commitment and legal talent are appreciated by this board and I believe by all AISD staff who have the good fortune of working with her."
Castillo, of the Arlington lawfirm Hill Gilstrap, reluctantly stood when he praised her.

Eva-Marie:
Great job tonight so far! Fair and balanced. I for one really appreciate just the facts.
Sincerely

Oh wait - I spoke too soon . . .
We got two quotes from the race baiters in the new story and one quote from Lauri Rule . . . I guess I should be thankful we got the Rule quote - previous stories included only quotes from the race baiters. Thank goodness Rule's quote was not "cut out by the editors" . . . not yet.

Hector Montenegro was NOT a target at all. He was held to the same accountability as any other superintendent. The problem was, he just didn't like answering. And Rev. Tatum, Hector had MULTIPLE opportunities to produce information requested by the Board. As to whether or not the current law "impedes" his ability to earn extra income, the fact remains that it IS the law now and he has to abide by it. I don't care if this man were PEA GREEN, he's just NOT ABOVE THE LAW. PERIOD. Why can't you see that?

The parallels between Arlington ISD and El Paso ISD are stunning. There were those in YISD that told HM he couldn't do stuff, but he did as he well pleased. He even fired one person who advised him against receiving "donations" from vendors. WOW!
