Standardized dress is once again on the agenda for Thursday night's school board meeting in Arlington.
A committee of parents, students and staff asked the board to consider standardized dress for the 2009-2010 school year. Earlier this month, trustees heard a report from administrators about what other districts do. Fort Worth and Kennedale both have standardized dress. It is a set of guidelines for dress that is less strict than uniforms. (The picture at the left is from Fort Worth's Website.)
The issue is listed under "discussion items" for the meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at the district's 1203 West Pioneer Parkway headquarters.

"Standardized dress" is all about perception not research based. There is no statistical evidence to support changing the current policy to "sd". It does not improve academics nor does it improve behavior. It's all about looks. Dress does not change behavior nor does it change grades. Let's be real, Mrs. Wade, it just changes the outside persona. Not the inside.
There are other things to worry about relative to the school district, mainly academics. That should be your focus right now. I encourage you all to drop this. The time is not right. There are other more important things to worry about.
By the way, if you can't tell. My family and I do not support "standardized dress" as presented. The current dress code is just fine. Don't fix something that isn't broken. Focus on budget and academics. That's what's pressing right now.
