A bill filed Tuesday by Texas Sen. Florence Shapiro, R-Plano, would give the families of students diagnosed with autism or autism spectrum disorder the ability so send their child to any school in a district or a district outside of the one where they live.
The Autism Services Accessibility Program would also allow them to get services from a private institution for students with autism, provided it met certain specifications.
Provisions in the bill allow for state funding to follow the student. To qualify children must be ages 3 to 11.
Shapiro (pictured from her Website) introduced similar legislation in 2007.
