Azle ISD to close schools the rest of the week

Officials said there's no probable or confirmed cases of swine flu, but they were seeing a high rate of absenteeism at about 10 percent districtwide.

Ray Ivey, director of administration, said the school-closing notice was being distributed shortly before the CDC made its official recommendation to not close schools if there are cases of swine flu. Ivey said officials expect that some students staying home will be confirmed to have the swine flu but he also noted that there have been some cases of the whooping cough.

"We're just going to go with it and use the time to clean our school," he said.

All school-related events are canceled through Sunday. Class is expected to resume Monday.

Well, I think the schools should have closed, ours did not and I know we have kids with the flu that were brought to school and then sent home and then came back the next day. No telling what I have been exposed to, but with no Nurse employed no telling---such is the life in the trenches
