Haltom High School is honoring 10 graduates today as the first inductees into the campus’ Hall of Fame.
About 20 nominations of distinguished alumni were submitted to a Haltom committee by community members from across the country.
A framed photo and biography of each honoree will be placed in a new Hall of Fame Wall in the front of the campus, said committee chair Kelvin Dilks, a social studies teacher and Haltom High teacher of the year.
Haltom High School, one of three senior high schools in the Birdville school district, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
The members of the inaugural class are being honored today at a community breakfast for Texas Public Schools Week and during a ceremony at a student assembly at the campus theater.
Here is a little bit about the first class.
Jim Angle: Fox News chief Washington correspondent, formerly with CNN, NPR and ABC
Kelvin Garmon: former pro football player for Dallas Cowboys, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders
John Giordano: jury chairman of Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, former music director of the Fort Worth Symphony and Chamber Orchestras
Ron Hall: international art dealer and coauthor of “Same Kind of Different as Me”
Scott Myers: Southwest artist, sculptor for NFL’s Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, veterinarian
Lynn Preston: holds a doctorate of molecular biology and author of several university textbooks.where?
Ty Nguyen-Reed: among the first Vietnamese-American female US Army officers, four tours in Iraq, launched a non profit in support of Iraqi women called Janan Collection.
Victor Rivera: Flower Mound municipal judge and lawyer
Lloyd Sizemore: longtime Haltom High history teacher; was Haltom High teacher of the year twice and Birdville’s secondary teacher of the year in 2003.
Jeff Whitfield: Air Force Academy graduate, Fulbright Scholar, attorney, prosecutor of accused Yugoslavian war criminals at The Hague
