UTA and Tarrant County College received a $200,000 grant to help encourage more students from underrepresented groups to consider majoring in the geosciences, according to a recent news release. The two institutions are working to establish an easy transfer process.
"Hispanics, African Americans and other minorities are underrepresented in the geosciences workforce compared to the general population, especially in Texas," said John Wickham, professor and chair of UTA's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Examples of geoscience-related jobs include environmental engineers, geographers, hydrologists and petroleum engineers.
