A film co-directed by a Richland High School graduate is one of five animated short films competing for an Academy Award.
Brandon Oldenburg is a 1991 graduate of the campus in North Richland Hills, Birdville school district officials said Wednesday.
The film, "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore," is up for best animated short in the 2011 Oscars, according to a news release from Moonbot Studios, based in Shreveport, La. The other director is William Joyce, an author and illustrator.
Their project now has an iPad app and a forthcoming hardcover book.
The film has already won several awards, including best animated short as well as the audience award at the Austin Film Festival. The Academy Awards are on Feb. 26.

I was amazed with Brandon's focus when I worked with him as a volunter at Citicabls in NRH. At that time I knew he would go far.
