The 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team from St. Paul Lutheran School recently won the 2013 Lutheran Middle School Tournament D II State title, according to a report by team coach Zach Matthews.
Matthews is a student at Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth. Jordan Harbor, a senior at Paschal High School, also coached the team.
Matthews’ play-by-play report states:
“St. Paul found themselves one win away from bringing the first ever boys basketball state championship home to Fort Worth and the only team standing in their way was St. Paul Lutheran from Thorndale. The last game of the season was full of stifling defense displayed by Ben Williams and Mason Berthelot with unmatched hustle from Luke Hawthorne. The game was sealed up when Philip Crowley sank a free throw to push the lead to four points with five seconds left and the final score displayed in favor of the Eagles 31-27.”
Matthews added: “I am incredibly proud of them and I know the community is as well. GO EAGLES!”
The Eagles victory dance was a Harlem Shake.

Zach and Jordan have been a great coaching team. The boys have learned a great deal from them. We appreciate them volunteering to coach the team and what a high winning the State Tournament was.
