The high school chess team at Lake County Christian School has a pretty simple motto: drink Dr Pepper, win trophies and have fun. It seems to be working. The team recently won its third regional title in a row beating 34 other schools from North Texas and as far as Abilene and Killeen. All told, the team has racked up 86 trophies in the last three years.
The team and along with volunteer coaches Tim Matheus andDr. Wyane Yee will now go to the United States Chess Federation's national competition in Nashville in April. They will take with them chess master Marko Zivanic, who helped lead the University of Texas at Dallas to its second Intercollegiate Chess Championship last year and serves as the Northwest Fort Worth school's mentor.
