Poultry Building begins to hop with rabbit entries

Bugs wasn't on hand, but activity was beginning to pick up early Thursday afternoon in the Poultry Building as youths began bringing in their rabbits for a show of six specialty breeds at 3 p.m. Friday.

Overall, rabbit show Superintendent Tom Barker said, 1,085 rabbits from 229 students were registered.

The specialty show Friday will feature Californian, Polish, Jersey Wooly, satin, mini rex and Thrianta breeds.

"We started doing that because those are our most-numbered breeds," Barker said. "We wanted to give the kids a chance to show them on two days. Plus it helps attract more rabbits to the show."

The other youth rabbit shows are at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
