I am not sure if this is all just political posturing or if the Sunset Commission is really prepared to do something about this rogue agency. Regardless, I am happy to hear that someone in Austin is listening to the people. I was pretty sure we learned in 7th grade Texas history that the only entity in the state of Texas with the power to levy taxes was the legislature. Makes perfect sense since they are most directly responsible to the people. But somehow, regional transportation commissions with the TTC, groups of appointed politicians responsible to no one, were given the power to tax and they have gone hog wild. Shame on us for allowing that to happen. Maybe now we can begin the process of reeling them in.
