Allen Clemson was chosen Wednesday as the new executive director of the North Texas Tollway Authority. He replaces Jorge Figueredo, who left nearly six months ago.
Clemson was Dallas County administrator from 1986-2009. He managed an $800 million budget and 7,000 employees, the ninth largest county in the U.S.
More recently, he was special assistant to the vice chancellor of the University of North Texas Dallas Campus.
During his tenure, Dallas County embarked upon a capital plan involving tens of millions of dollars of major projects, without issuing long-term debt.

The Plano-based tollway authority is the lead agency in the proposed Southwest Parkway project, a propsoed toll road from downtown Fort Worth to Cleburne.
