Interstate 35W (northbound) to shut down Thursday in Alvarado for police investigation -- detour available to Old Hwy. 81

Motorists planning to travel northbound on Interstate 35W through Alvarado Thursday will find themselves taking a scenic detour of the small city south of Fort Worth. The northbound side of the highway is scheduled to be shut down 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, so police can conduct an investigation of a recent accident.

Traffic will exit at Maple Avenue and continue on Parkway Road through the city, re-entering I-35W near U.S. 67. Drivers can expect a delay of several minutes -- although they might enjoy the detour, which follows the path of Old U.S. Highway 81.
