HALTOM CITY — The Northeast Loop 820 westbound off ramp to Beach Street will close at 9 p.m. Monday and remain closed for an extended period. To reach Beach, drivers must take the previous off ramp at Haltom Road and stay on the westbound service road.
This closure is part of the $2.5 billion North Tarrant Express project, said Lara Kohl, spokeswoman for Bluebonnet Contractors, the project’s construction manager.
“This is the next progression in construction as we work to improve mobility on IH 820,” she said. “These construction improvements will enhance access to Haltom Road and Beach Street, while ensuring maximum traffic flow along the highway.”
When it’s finished in mid-2015, the highway will combine the Beach Street and Haltom Road exits into one off ramp with bypass lanes going under the Haltom Road intersection for direct access to Beach, Kohl said.
The project will rebuild frontage roads and main lanes and add toll lanes to 13.5 miles of Loop 820 and Airport Freeway from Interstate 35W to the Texas 121/183 split. — Terry Evans
