Drivers beware! Right-lane exit switching to left side on 121/183 in Bedford ... again

BEDFORD One of the most confusing stretches of Texas 121/183 in the Bedford-Euless area is about to become even more perplexing. Beginning Friday night, the eastbound Texas 183 exit to northbound Texas 121 is scheduled to be converted to a left-lane exit.

The left-lane configuration is scheduled to remain in place until November, as workers shift the freeway lanes to make room for the fourth and final bridge construction in the 121/183 merge area, said North Tarrant Express spokesman Robert Hinkle said.

The work is part of the $2.5 billion North Tarrant Express project, which includes a massive makeover of a 13.5-mile stretch of Texas 121/183 and Loop 820 in Northeast Tarrant County.

The eastbound on-ramp at Central Drive also will be closed until an unspecified time Saturday, to create room for the lane switch.

Hinkle urged motorists to be on the lookout for other drivers who may be surprised by the left-lane exit and may try to swerve. “We will have extensive signage in place to alert drivers to the change but, for many of us, we tend to follow old habits when driving, particularly if we are distracted,” he said. - Gordon Dickson
