Fort Worth officials say there's a slim chance of the city going forward with plans to give the popular and congested Forest Park Boulevard a "road diet' - at least for a couple of months - after the city's street striping contractor went belly up.
FORT WORTH — Find another way to get to the northbound Interstate 35W frontage road from westbound Northeast Loop 820. The off-ramp just west of Riverside Drive will be closed for about six months, beginning 9 p.m. Friday. The closure is due to North Tarrant Express contractors working on new main and toll lanes from Beach Street to the interchange. Westbound traffic must exit at Beach to reach the frontage road, or be redirected to Mark IV Parkway and detoured back onto eastbound Loop 820 to the Beach Street off-ramp. Access to the westbound Loop 820 frontage road won’t be affected. The closure represents “the tremendous progress we’re making on this essential interchange,” said Robert Hinkle, spokesman for the project developer, NTE Mobility Partners. The $2.5 billion project set for mid-2015 completion will replace main lanes and frontage roads and add toll lanes to 13.5 miles of Loop 820 and Airport Freeway from Interstate 35W to Industrial Boulevard.
