UPDATE: I-35W not closing after all in north Fort Worth, TxDot now says

Update: I just received word from the Texas Department of Transportation that I-35W north of Loop 820 in Fort Worth won't be closed for the next couple of nights after all.

"Upon further review, the contractor found a way to perform the work without closing the roadway," Texas Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Peters said.

This is the original story that ran for a few hours Tuesday until TxDot said it would no longer need to close the road:

Interstate 35W will be a tight squeeze north of Loop 820 for the next couple of nights.

The freeway's northbound main lanes will be closed 9 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday at Basswood Boulevard. Then, the southbound main lanes will be closed 9 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.

The closures are necessary so workers can pour bridge decks for the planned new turnaround bridges under construction at the existing Basswood Boulevard overpass, said Texas Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Peters.

The closures are weather permitting, meaning they could be delayed by rain, but no such moisture is in the forecast.

Motorists will be detoured to frontage roads, and police will be in the area to keep things moving relatively smoothly.

But drivers can expect delays of at least several minutes.
