45 states ban texting while driving, but not Texas

@gdickson

Texas is one of just five states that don't prohibit texting while driving, and anyone who spends any amount of time on the roads knows it's still an extremely common practice.

For this story I went to a handful of North Texas intersections and counted how many people I could see texting or talking on a phone at a given moment.

Also, in this story you'll hear from three people who lost loves ones to distracted driving -

JensmithJennifer Smith, who lost her mom, Linda Doyle.

JenzamoraJennifer Zamora-Jamison, who lost her husband, Javier Zamora.

KathybondKathy Bond, who lost her daughter, Katrina Bond.

Sure, talking about the crash that took their loved ones helps them cope with the loss. But all three also say that if their stories motivate other people to drive safer, then it takes an extremely negative situation and turns it into a positive.
