Sen. John Cornyn told reporters today he was "firmly on the sidelines" in the race between Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Gov. Rick Perry but he sure wasn't neutral about Hutchison leaving the Senate. Wearing, as he put it, his National Republican Senatorial Committee hat, Cornyn said, "My hope is that she keeps her Senate seat as long as possible."
Cornyn noted that there are only 41 Republican senators -- and losing Hutchison would potentially put the GOP "in a 40 vote filibuster-proof position."
"That is my concern," he said. "She does not have to give up her seat," he added, since Texas law allows her to run for office while maintaining her Senate seat. Asked if he had told her not to resign at all -- she's already delayed her planned exit from June to the end of the year -- Cornyn said he had spoken to her about it. "That is my request for her," which he said he had made "both publicly and privately."

This is all he cares about is a filibuster proof rule instead of representing the needs of common folks in Texas who are in urgent need of help; typical Republican.

"There are only 41 Republican senators -- and losing Hutchison would potentially put the GOP "in a 40 vote filibuster-proof position." That statement should tell you that we the people are fed up with Republican policy! More Republican senators are going to loose their jobs when the time comes! Your policies have not worked, will not work and are not in line with what your average citizen wants to hear! Look at the results of the November 4th election! Lead or get out of the way so Obama can try to get us out of this mess you Republicans played a big part in creating!

The results of the election only mean people didnt vote where Rep. were ousted because they were RINOS and we Republicans are sick of RINO's because they dont repesent True Rep. ideologies.
And Osama won for the same reason (because it was a HUGE mistake to have McLame represent the Rep. Party) And they got the result they deserved. Which was no one wanting to vote because BOTH candidates were worthles as a screen door on a submarine.
Power of filibuster is all Rep. have now to stop the spread of Socialism that you Osamabots want so badly.
America has now gone to Hell in a Handbasket...

I see my post was deleted....Typical liberal action. (Silence the opposition)

BP, republicans and democrats alike played the role in this fine mess. Blaming one party over the other is asinine. I personally do not want Cornyn, Hutchison, Perry nor Granger to ever hold office again after what they did to us in the bailouts but to vote in a democrat that will do the same horrible job just because your pissed at the GOP is self defeating. Educate yourself and be a part of the solution. www.campaignforliberty.com

i am not surprised that all he is worried about is fllibusting. typical.

BP is correct in that the majority has spoken in the 2008 election. It's time to get out of the way. If Cornyn and Hutchison and Gov. Perry are against the bailout (I am too for that matter), then they need to put their money where their mouths are -- DO NOT ACCEPT ONE DIME OF BAILOUT MONEY IN TEXAS!!!!! No way they would ever do that.

If the Dems pass this near $1 trillion pork bill, under the guise of "economic stimulus", it won't be long before the GOP is back in the majority. Make no mistake, this is a Dem spending bill. They have the votes, and don't need republicans to pass it. They're just trying to get them to join so they can point fingers when the S*** hits the fan.

Good for you, JR. We need some sort of check on the obamanation that is now our president. If left up to him and Pelosi and Reid and the rest of the tax-and-spend majority, we'll need another World War to get out of the current NORMAL business cycle low spot. I, also, suggest that the gimme-first rank and file of the democrat party educate themselves on the economic history of our country. The only way out of a recession is lower taxes and greater investment in PRODUCTIVITY. Not more non-productive government interference in our economy.

JR is full of it. Republicans engineered this financial failure. Who else but Democrats are an alternative? I voted for the Democrat and for the first time in DECADES someone in the White house gives a damn about the middle class. THAT'S educating yourself and being part of a solution. Not chasing websites promoted by you.

Keep her Senate seat as long as she acts like a Republican. She voted for that PORK Bill plastered with Stimulus Lipstick. She voted with the Democrats. How can you elect somone you can't trust to represent you?
At this point, we will probably end up with a better replacement.

JR, granted there were Democrats and Republicans playing the game but your be Frank and I will be Ernest, who set he wheels of deregulation in motion? Who lied us into unnecessary wars to be paid for with borrowed money? Who held the majority in all branches of government most of the past ten years? If you can honestly blame the Democrats, you are delusional. The Republican philosophy set in motion by Ronald Reagan and championed by the likes of Phil Gramm, Dick Armey, Tom DeLay, George W. Bush et al has failed miserably. It is time to try something different. Please quit Senator Hutchison and for that matter I wish Cornyn would quit as well.

Ken,
We have had no such thing as deregulation. Learn what that term is actually comprised of and you will quickly learn how entrenched government is in our markets.
I do not argue that Bush lied about Iraq but where are we now? Is Obama bringing them home? No he isn't and he is sending more into Afghanistan. One warmonger for another and he does not intend to leave Iraq, his words.
Doesn't matter who held majority. Go research and see how they ALL voted. You will see that Dem's and Repub's voted alike when stripping our civil liberties and pocketbooks.
Yes! Our policies are failing, lets try something that neither party is trying. How about following the constitution for starters. None of the people you listed including any Democrat you can list within the past 40+ years has actually tried limited government, lowered taxes, free markets or a non-interventionist foreign policy. Yes some may have passed bills that said they did but like any government bill the name has nothing to do with the actual workings of the bill.
I also want Cornyn and Hutchison to quit but replacing them with another politician that will ignore the voters wishes and constitution is not the solution. Me delusional, possibly. You in total denial, definitely.
