Former Mansfield School Board President Joy Keller filed this week to run as a Republican for the South Arlington state house seat currently held by Democrat Chris Turner.
Keller will vie against former state Rep. Bill Zedler for the party’s nomination, further crowding an already busy primary ballot for the Tarrant County Republican Party.
Keller, 48, served on the Mansfield school board for 12 years, four as board president, before stepping down in 2007. She currently works as an insurance executive in Dallas and is a certified public accountant.
Keller said she is making her first foray into party politics. Zedler, a self-employed investor, has been active in local Republican circles for over a decade. He lost the District 96 seat to Turner in 2008.
Keller said she hoped to keep a positive tone in her primary campaign against Zedler.
“I think Bill served well for three terms but because he’s not an incumbent, it’s a good opportunity to come in,” Keller said.
District 96 includes South Arlington, Crowley, Kennedale and parts of Fort Worth, Mansfield and Burleson.

I attended the SE Tarrant County Republican Club's candidate forum on January 12th.
Joy Keller admitted that she voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primary.
Joy Keller also finished her candidate talk with a derogatory comment about Sarah Palin. Mrs. Keller said that she was smarter than Sarah Palin, and the tone of her voice reflected a negative attitude toward Governor Palin.
