Haltom City Councilman Anthony Reed is hoping to spark an explosion in campaign contributions tomnorrow but the money's not for him.
The 22-year-old launched MedinaMoneyBomb.com earlier this month to encourage supporters of Republican Gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina to donate to her campaign on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
Medina’s camp has promoted the site on Facebook and Twitter though Reed is unaffiliated with Medina’s campaign.
“I really think Debra Medina is the only true conservative of the candidates,” Reed said.
In 2008, supporters of Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s presidential bid gained national attention for attracting millions of dollars in donations in one-day “money bomb” events.
Reed said the approach is an exciting way to engage supporters.
“I think people like to be part of an event,” Reed said. “It’s kind of a motivating factor when people get to see what they can do together as a team.”
Reed said he picked Dec. 29 for his money bomb because it’s the anniversary of the day in 1845 when Texas was annexed as part of the United States.
