FORT WORTH -- After months of keeping his silence, Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief decided to endorse one of the two candidates hoping to replace him at the helm of the city.
On Thursday, slightly more than a week before the June 18 runoff election, Moncrief released a short statement saying he and his wife Rosie are throwing their support behind former Tarrant County Tax Assessor Collector Betsy Price, rather than his former colleague, former City Councilman Jim Lane.
"Her love of Fort Worth and her ideas about our community's quality of life are both appealing and visionary," Moncrief said. "We wish her the best in this election."
-- Anna M. Tinsley

What is her vision for the city, Mr. Mayor? That would be news to all of us. By consistently avoiding a debate with Jim Lane, the electorate has no real idea where she stands on any issue.
Betsy Price has never been in a policy-making role, much less led a legislative body.
If elected, she would be stepping into something way over her head. She has no relationship with ANY current council member. It is nonexistent.
Former Mayor Bob Bolen once said it took him two years as a council member to figure out what was going on in the city, who the staff was and how to work with them.
As voters, we have no idea how she will lead or how she will she build the coalitions necessary to govern because she has decided not to talk to us.
She is only concerned with the business interests downtown. The neighborhoods? To hell with them.
And as an added insult, she went to Dallas to raise funds for her campaign instead of debate Jim Lane at the Ridglea Hills Neighborhood Association.
This is inexcusable! If she is ignorant of the message that sent to residents here, what else does she not know about us.
Voters should send her a message that is loud and clear.
Jim Lane has served on the council. He voted seven times to cut the property tax rate! He has worked with three mayors. He knows what it takes to govern at this level like no one else in this city.
He is, quite frankly, the only candidate that is qualified to be mayor of Fort Worth with a STATED vision for our city.
Betsy Price can have her Dallas cronies. We want Jim Lane.
Thank you for reading and posting, Ms. Tinsley.

This signals to me that the powers that be are worried about former Tax Collector Price's chances. Rememer, the Mayor also endorsed opposing police meet and confer and firefighter collective bargaining and those passed despite his opposition. The neighborhoods are rising up for Jim Lane! And this endorsement is the wrong thing to stop that trend.

If you want more of the same old, same old, Jim Lane is your man! Step back and look who was part of the group that got the City of Fort Worth into the financial mess that it's in now.

If you have ever gone to her office to take care of an auto registration you know all you need to know about her from the behavior of the people who worked for her. No effort, no urgency, no real concern about the citizen across the counter. Want more of that citywide???

What neighborhoods? None of them speak for me. An individual.

Jim supporters sure come across as angry, hateful people. That's what you would get with Jim Lane. You would end up with a council that acts like the Dallas City Council!
I will take Betsy's positive leadership every time!

I know Mr. Lane and think he would make an excellant Mayor for EVERYONE IN FT WORTH and not just the money people downtown. Vote Lane and watch Ft Worth prosper. Can't go wrong unless you pull the Price Button. BIG MISTAKE if you do.

Mike Moncrief has been pressured by the FW Chamber of Commerce to make this endorsement. Moncrief is, once again, stabbing the blue collar police officers and firefighters who protect us in the back to satisfy his downtown friends.
Moncrief has not, and will never, be a friend of the public safety employees of this city. He is putting his downtown Chamber of Commerce cronies above the people who put their lives on the line everyday to protect us, our cops and firemen.
What are Betsy Price's appealing and visionary ideas, Mr. Mayor? She has never cast a vote in public office, nor has she ever made a decision effecting public policy at any level!
Anyone can spout appealing and visionary ideas, but I want to know what that person has done in the past that shows they are capable of bringing those ideas to fruition.
It seems that the Mayor Moncrief is just following Dallas' lead in endorsing Betsy Price. She has garnered the support of Dallas donors who recently gave her money at a Dallas fundraiser she attended while Jim Lane stood in a Fort Worth neighborhood waiting for her to show up for their debate. She never showed. Jim simply spoke to the citizens who came and shared his appealing vision for the city and how his experience as an elected official in public service can help us realize that vision.
I am a registered Republican, but I cannot vote for someone who has never held public office to lead the city that I love. That's right Mr. Mayor, I love Fort Worth too, but that does not qualify me to be mayor.
Vote Jim Lane

The next mayor of the City of Fort Worth, Lauren Miller, i... mean Betsy Price.

Lucky for us the Moncrief endorsement doesn't mean much. Certainly didn't help Kim Brimmer any...just ask him!
No question that Jim Lane is the most experienced and the most talented for the workload that will be hitting the new mayor from day one. He is also concerned about bringing our neighborhoods back into an active role in city government.

I have gone to the tax office on multiple occasions and always found the staff there helpful and courteous. Terry, maybe it's you causing the problem when you've gone.
As for Mayor's opposition of the police and firefighters entitlement to gorge at the public feeding trough, I say, shame on those who voted to allow it... THEY are the cause of our current economic crisis.

I've about had enough of Lane's ridiculous, mud-slinging, disingenuous mail outs. So crass, tacky and out of taste - even if I new nothing about him, this would turn me off as a voter. Price has remained much more above board. And she is an administrator with a decade of proven skill in this; Lane is just a scumbag lawyer politician.
