Local candidates showed up early Monday to file for spots for next year's Republican and Democratic primaries.
Candidates for races with districts entirely in Tarrant County can file at the two party's local offices in Fort Worth. Candidates for races with districts that cover more than one party have to file with state headquarters in Austin.
At Tarrant County Democratic headquarters, Fort Worth City Councilwoman Kathleen Hicks was first in line. Hicks filed to run for the District 33 congressional seat, a newly drawn district.
At the local Republican office, the first to file were state Reps. Charlie Geren of Fort Worth and Bill Zedler of Arlington, both of whom filed for re-election, and state Rep. Mark Shelton, R-Fort Worth. Shelton filed for the state Senate seat currently held by Fort Worth Democrat Wendy Davis.
