On the heels of asking the nation's top court on Monday to block new state House and Senate legislative maps from going into effect, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott on Tuesday asked the court to stop the new congressional map from being implemented as well.
If Abbott is successful, candidates essentially would have to stop filing for legislative and congressional seats because there would not be maps in effect to define the districts.
Filing began Monday for those seeking election next year. The filing period runs through Dec. 15.
