Fort Worth City Council members will formally vote Tuesday on hiring the Fort Worth law firm Kelly, Hart & Hallman to represent the city in its lawsuit against the Fort Worth Employee's Retirement Fund. The firm's bill: $100,000, according to the resolution going before the council.
Kelly, Hart & Hallman filed suit against the fund two weeks ago, asking a judge to declare the city's planned pension benefit reductions legal under the state constitution. The suit also asks the judge to declare the Fort Worth Police Officers Association's recent vote, in which officers voted to raise their pension contributions and leave more money in the retirement fund in exchange for keeping their benefits formula, in violation of state law. The city's position: that all employee groups -- general, police, and fire -- had to participate in the vote for it to be legal.

Expensive, connected, lawyers who will get the same results as the city attorney's office. This is a legal issue that will be determined by a judge, not a jury. The $100k is the retainer. Let's see the bill at the end of the case.
