They may be from the same party but Sen. John Cornyn is definitely a non-fan these days of former Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., to be defense secretary. Texas' other GOP senator, Ted Cruz, has made a name for himself with his relentless questioning of Hagel before the Senate Armed Services Committee, a committee seat that Cornyn relinquished when he became minority whip.
But Cornyn is not going to be left behind in his criticism of Hagel, who is up for a Senate vote today.
“There is simply no way to sugarcoat it: Senator Hagel’s performance before the Senate Armed Services Committee was remarkably inept, and we should not be installing a Defense Secretary who is obviously not qualified for the job, and who holds dangerously misguided views on some of the most important issues facing national security policy for our country," said Cornyn on the Senate floor.
