State Rep. Jeff Leach, R-Plano, has filed a new bill to give Texans a little more independence.
House Bill 1533 would create a new tax-free holiday -- one day in Texas set aside to let people buy guns and ammunition without paying a penny in sales tax.
It's called the "Texas Gun Ownership Reinforcement Act," and it would go into effect every March 2 -- Texas Independence Day.
"As we fight against the federal government's overreach, there is no more appropriate day to instate this tax-free holiday than on Texas Independence Day," Leach said.
Co-authors include Republican state Reps. Phil King of Weatherford and Jonathan Stickland of Bedford.
