Fort Worth swore in new City Council member Gyna Bivens to the Southeast District 5 seat tonight. Bivens took the post of incumbent Frank Moss, who she beat in a runoff election in June.
Bivens introduced three speakers, including her mother and pastor. “With that, mayor, I’m ready to go to work,” Bivens told Mayor Betsy Price after being sworn in.
Bivens’ first order of business: Asking for the continuance of two items involving District 5 on the council’s consent agenda, because she wasn’t prepared to address them yet.
The council also bade farewell to Moss, who served several terms on the council.
“The name Moss is just synonymous with public service,” Price said.
Moss listed several accomplishments, including the completion of a plan for the redevelopment of the Cavile Place public housing project. “I’m going to continue to remain active, continue to remain involved, in my community,” he said.
