The city of Fort Worth says "employee error" contributed to a contractor's demolition of the wrong house July 12.
Here's the city's full statement, issued a few minutes ago:
On July 12, 2013, contractors demolished the wrong property on Watercress Drive. The substandard property approved for demolition by the Building Standards Commission was 9708 Watercress Dr. The property demolished was an adjacent vacant structure located at 9716 Watercress Dr. City staff has completed an initial investigation into the incident. This investigation shows that employee error contributed to the contractor demolishing the wrong house. City staff is currently tightening administrative procedures to make sure this type of incident doesn’t happen again. With the investigation and review of procedures completed, the city is now focused on working with the owners of the 9716 Watercress Dr. property to provide appropriate resolution to this unfortunate situation.
Bill Begley, a city spokesman, says the tightened administrative prodecures should be complete and publicized next week.
He did not have more information on the specifics of the employee error.
