American is officially rolling out its "Ding killer," a software product called DealFinder. Readers may have seen a story about this a few weeks ago in the Star-Telegram - it's a program that sits on your computer and monitors specific fares that you're interested in. When they drop below a certain level, DealFinder alerts you, and directs you to the American web site if you want to buy the tickets.
The program has been available on a limited basis since June, but now it's being widely distributed, on American's site.
DealFinder attempts to out-do the popular Ding! software that's been distributed by Southwest for a few years now. While Ding! alerts users to low fares, DealFinder goes a step further by monitoring specific routes and times.
