TWU local president tells members to "be prepared"

In a letter sent out to members of the Transport Workers Union Local 562, president Bob Owens told them to "be prepared to become the most powerful important part of the process in the struggle to force the greedy selfish people who slashed our pay and erased our benefits to live up to their promise of shared gain."

Last month, American Airlines' mechanics and store clerks, both who are represented by the TWU, rejected tentative agreements with the Fort Worth-based carrier.

Owens said the "mechanics and related" committee is not scheduled to meet again until October 11-15, and while Owens did not mention a possible strike, he did remind members that concessions lost in 2003 were originally gained by union members "willing to battle for it."

Please enlighten us, Mr. Owens, as to how having a pension, a job that has not been outsourced, and industry high wages and benefits is the result of "greedy, selfish people." Your fight is about over and it is high time to understand that maintenance jobs can easily go away if any company is pushed hard enough. You should be thanking your lucky stars that Arpey took the moral high road and forged a partnership with your union to ensure AA's MRO is done in house.

I wonder if Bob put a stamp of a hammer and sickle on the letter.

Bob you are so far off base you'll never score. I am all for sharing the gain, but where is the gain? AA is still losing money.

You probably think AA is hiding a bunch of cash somewhere. I'll get out my tin foil hat and we will figure it out together!

i am sick of people diggign in there heals on my behalf when it is not going to do any good...i know bobs heart is in the right place but being this antagonistick is not helpful...we sent a meesgae to iron things out a bit more but we have to be realistic...just like the first person said our jobs are not guarenteed and i wouldnot be so sure taht pushing too hard is going to cause bigger problems down the road

HIGH KATE. YOU ARE A COMPLETE IDIOT. THANKS TO ARPEY HE DIDN,T OUTSOURCE MNTC JOBS. MAYBE YOUR JOB SHOULD BE OUTSOURCED . WE SAVED THIS ROTTEN PIECE OF CRAP OF AN AIRLINE SO IDIOTS LIKE YOU AT HDQ COULD SUCK UP TO ARPEY. BUT DON,T WORRY THE FEDS WILL SOON UNCOVER ALL THE CORUPTION AT HDQ AND PUT THEM ALL IN JAIL LIKE DOGS WHERE THEY BELONG. SO ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN BECAUSE THE CANDY STORE WILL CLOSE SOON.

Looks like Uncle Bob has finally gone off his rocker. Maybe he is trying to be the 'bad boy' of negotiations now that Lloyd Hill has been shown the door?

In any case his tactics are going to fall flat. AA has already said specifically that it will not be upping the offer in the next round.
