Southwest declares 140th quarterly dividend

In a two-sentence press release issued Thursday afternoon, Southwest Airlines declared a quarterly dividend of $0.0045 per share to the shareholders of record at close of business on August 25.

This is the 140th consecutive quarterly dividend that the Dallas-based carrier has paid out to its shareholders.

To put that into perspective, Southwest has issued dividends since Gerald Ford was president of the United States.
