With thousands of flight delays and cancellations in late September and early October partly due to a pilots filing more maintenance requests, it was pretty clear that American Airlines was not going to win the top spot in the Department of Transportation's monthly on-time rating list.
And when the DOT released its on-time ratings report on Thursday morning, American ranked last with an on-time rating of 59 percent. Dallas-based Southwest Airlines ranked sixth with an on-time rating of 86.5 percent for September.
