Air Methods buys helicopters from top North Texas manufacturers

One of the nation’s largest operators of emergency helicopters has purchased a total of 42 choppers from two North Texas-based helicopter manufacturers.

Air Methods Corp. ordered 22 air medical emergency helicopters from American Eurocopter, which has offices in Grand Prairie. In addition, the company ordered an additional 20 choppers from Bell Helicopter based in Fort Worth.

The effort is an example of the Air Methods’ “commitment to having the most modern fleet in the helicopter emergency medical services industry,’’ said Archie Gray, senior vice president of Air Methods Aviation Services.

Air Methods, established in 1980, is based in Englewood, Colo.
