Lockheed Martin was awarded a $755 million contract to provide Patrior Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) missiles to the Army, a Lockheed official said Thursday.
Production will take place at Lockheed facilities in Dallas and Lufkin, as well as in Massachusetts, Florida and Arkansas, with a completion date of July 31, 2015.
The "hit-to-kill" Pac-3 can counter aircraft, advance cruise missiles and tactical ballistic missiles carrying weapons of mass destruction. The missile defeats targets through a direct hit.
According to Lockheed, the Pac-3 "is a quantum leap ahead of any air defense missile when it comes to the ability to protect the war fighter."
