American and US Airways want authorization for more stock as part of its merger

American Airlines' parent company, AMR Corp., and US Airways want authorization for more shares of stock than it had originally proposed as part of its merger agreement.

In documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday, the carriers said it wants authorization for an additional 100 million shares of preferred stock than before.

The amendment to the merger proposal now calls for authorization of 1.75 billion shares of common stock and 200 million shares of preferred stock.
