US Airways says passenger traffic up 4.4 percent in April

US Airways reported that passenger traffic in April grew 4.4 percent as the carrier increased its capacity by 3.1 percent.

The Tempe-based airline's load factor also rose 1.1 percentage points to 83.6 percent for the month.

Unit revenues, however, declined 4 percent compared to April 2012, said US Airways president Scott Kirby.

"Despite the unpredictable challenges that were created by the sequester-related furloughs of Federal Aviation Administration empoyees, our 32,000 team members did an outstanding job of taking car of our customers," Kirby said. "We are pleased that the situation is resolved and we have returned to a more normal operating environment."
