AMR bankruptcy merger hearing begins

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane's hearing to confirm or deny AMR Corp.'s merger  with US Airways began on schedule this morning in Manhattan. The hearing was expected to be one of the final steps in the carrier's Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization until the U.S. Justice Department and six states filed suit on Tuesday to stop the merger. The carriers say they'll fight the lawsuit and complete their proposed merger, which would create the world's largest airline.
