AirTran flight attendants vote in favor of a new contract with Southwest Airlines

The 1,700 flight attendants at AirTran Airways that have not yet integrated into Southwest Airlines approved a new contract on Monday.

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA said the contract gives flight attendants immediate benefits while waiting to be migrated into Southwest. In 2011, Southwest purchased AirTran for $1.4 billion.

"This agreement provides Flight Attendants with some immediate economic improvements until management completes the integration process," said AFA AirTran president Alison Head in a statement. "AirTran flight attendants stood strong throughout negotiations and remained resolute that we not be left behind as a result of this merger."
