Monday Midday Must-Reads

-AP's Scott Mayerowitz put together this great overview of the jet shopping spree many airlines, including American Airlines, have embarked on. Airlines have ordered more than 8,200 new planes from Airbus SAS and the Boeing Co. in the past five years with 24 planes rolling off assembly lines each week, up from 11 a decade ago, Mayerowitz reported.

-Cranky Flier, Brett Snyder took an analytical view of how airlines operations were affected by the snowstorms that blanketed the Midwest and East Coast last week. In Chicago, United Airlines was quicker to recover operationally from the storms but American Airlines passengers had a better chance of making it out on a flight as the Fort Worth-based carrier tried to operate more flights during the storm, he posited in this blog post.

-And while this isn't really aviation related, this viral video of a stunt BMX biker riding on the new Fort Worth 7th Street bridge is a lot of fun to watch.
