Virgin America wins four slot pairs at Reagan from American

Virgin America said it has won four slot pairs at Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. that American Airlines was forced to give up as part of its merger with US Airways.

Last month, Southwest Airlines received 27 slot pairs and JetBlue Airways received 20 slot pairs as part of American’s divestiture required by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“We’re pleased to have the opportunity to offer our new service at DCA and LGA and help shake up the market for consumers,” said Virgin America chief executive David Cush.

Virgin America currently offers flights between Washington Dulles airport and San Francisco and Los Angeles.
