American says May passenger traffic rose 2.1 percent

Passenger traffic at American Airlines grew 2.1 percent in May as the carrier added 2.4 percent more capacity to its network.

As a result, the Fort Worth-based carrier's load factor decreased slightly, down 0.3 percentage points to 84.0 for May 2014. The monthly figures are for a combined American and US Airways.

American said it expects unit revenues to be up five to seven percent for the second quarter versus the same period last year.

The company also told said it will combine its frequent flier program miles in 2015. They also increased the redemption levels for travel for its US Airways' Dividend Miles frequent flier program as it works to combine it with American's AAdvantage program. 

American told Dividend Miles members that they will be able to upgrade on American flights within 24 hours of departure staring on June 11. Chairman preferred members receive these upgrades complimentary similar to American's Executive Platinum members while other Dividend Miles Preferred members will be able to upgarde for $30 per 500 miles of travel.
