IAM District 142 president Tom Higginbotham retires

The International Association of Machinists announced on Friday that Tom Higginbotham, president of District Lodge 142, retired effective Friday.

Higginbotham will be replaced by current secretary-treasurer Dave Supplee, the union said in a message posted on its website.

District 142 represents US Airways mechanics who recently approved a new contract with American Airlines' management over the summer that provided members with furlough protection and pay raises.

That district also represents 6,000 passenger service agents at Southwest Airlines who recently requested a federal mediator step in to contract talks after the two sides have been unable to reach a new agreement in the past two years.
