American to add New York JFK to Birmingham, England route in May

American Airlines announced on Monday that it will launch service between New York JFK airport and Birmingham, England on May 7.

The Fort Worth-based carrier said Birmingham will be American's fifth destination in the U.K. and it will use a Boeing 757 on the route.

"This flight gives our customers on both sides of the Atlantic a new option for travel between the United States and England," said American vice president Chuck Schubert in a statement.

The flight will leave New York daily at 7 p.m. and arrive in Birmingham at 7:10 a.m. the next morning. The return flight will depart Birmingham at 10 a.m. and arrive in New York at 12:55 p.m.
